Beneath Shadows of Remembrance

During the Festival of Remembrance, animated effigies of ash attack the party. They take shelter in the Last Lantern, run by Mother Vee, who plainly distrusts anyone who wears a holy symbol. A barmaid named Tamsin tends a hearth fire of odd colours. A drunk named Roger talks about a town that keeps changing its mind. Nobody pays for anything. Aelion's Detect Magic shows protective magic in Mother Vee's ring, the fire, and the soup, and necromancy in a mounted horned head on the wall.

Then a woman bursts in crying that Nora has been taken. Mother Vee says Nora has to be killed. Aelion refuses, casts Protection from Evil and Good, and calls Nora back with a surge of golden light; the black smoke is forced out of her and the other possessed townsfolk fall free. Mother Vee, stunned, admits the town has been killing the taken for months. When the party returns to the tavern to applause, Tamsin has vanished.
